In the UK, more of us are living longer, with record numbers of people reaching their 80s, 90s and beyond. Yet for many, these later years are blighted by chronic loneliness and isolation.
Each year, Re-engage gives nearly 8,000 older people the chance to make new friends, regain a sense of community and improve their wellbeing. We know from the feedback we receive that our lifeline of friendship makes a world of difference
"When you get to my age, all you do is look back on the life you had but Re-engage has given me something to look forward to, something to live for." Re-engage tea party guest
Yet we know that there are still many more people who could rediscover joy in their lives through our free monthly tea parties, activity groups and telephone befriending service. We also have bold plans to widen our reach, especially to older men and to more people from minority groups.
While our 14,000 volunteer hosts and drivers give their time for nothing, Re-engage needs additional funding to recruit and train more volunteers, to promote our services to new older people and to grow our services across the UK.
One way you can help us achieve this is by remembering the work of Re-engage in your will. We understand you will want to provide for your loved ones first, but if you are able to, please consider a gift in your will to Re-engage. We promise to use every penny carefully to bring companionship and connections to many more older people
There is still so much to do to address the endemic loneliness in our country and you can help us by leaving a legacy of friendship.

Social prescribing week
It’s social prescribing week and we’re celebrating our partnerships with social prescribers across the UK. With the lifting of restrictions, we are looking for more ways to connect with social prescribers and make sure they know about our work.

Making time to make a difference
90-year-old Patricia has been attending the Hoddesdon 1 tea parties since 2019. For group coordinator Sarah, a career change from being a primary school teacher to working from home meant she had more time on her hands. She decided she wanted to use that extra time to do something that made a real difference. Now she and Patricia have struck up a true friendship.
