Thank you for signing up to be a rainbow call companion. Re-engage aims to help people 75 and over build social connections and is committed to reaching a more diverse population of older people. Our research to understand the needs of older LGBT+ people who may be experiencing loneliness, showed there was an overwhelming desire for LGBT+ specific services to help people feel truly comfortable and supported.
We are pleased to offer rainbow call companions: our award-winning free telephone befriending service for older LGBT+ people run by LGBT+ volunteers. Having someone to talk to who understands LGBT+ experiences and needs can help an older person feel safe and accepted.
“This work takes courage and persistence and I am really grateful for your efforts which, I have no doubt, will have benefitted LGBT individuals greatly.”
Dr Michael Brady FRCP (he/him), National Advisor for LGBT Health, NHS England
As a rainbow call companion volunteer you will already be a member of the LGBT+ community and will understand the challenges that come with this.
This training is designed to help you understand the challenges that older LGBT+ people may have faced and are still facing and how this may influence the conversations you have as a rainbow call companion. Following this introductory module for rainbow call companions, you will also need to complete the general call companions training, which will take you through specifics of the role.
You will be directed to the call companions training after completing training 3.
