Meet rainbow call companion Julian

Julian, 47, a hospitality business consultant who lives in Southsea is one of our first rainbow call companion volunteers. Julian is happily married and has friends and family around him. He told us that, by becoming a rainbow call companion, he hopes to give something back to a generation that may have felt less fortunate.

Our work

The digital divide

With more of us in the world relying on the internet since the coronavirus pandemic, we wanted to get a better understanding of what people aged 75 and over think of the internet. Who is online and who isn't and why? Our commissioned research showed that half were not online, while others found the internet a lifeline.

Launch of our rainbow call companion service

Today we launch rainbow call companions, our free telephone service for LGBT+ older people who live alone and feel they would enjoy a friendly phone call every week or two with a volunteer who is also from the LGBT+ community.  We caught up with Re-engage LGBT+ engagement officer Sam to find out more about the service.

Meet volunteer Avril

When Avril, in Stockton-on-Tees, was thinking about what she wanted to do when she retired from her job at Durham University, volunteering was top of her list. Six years now into being a volunteer for Re-engage, she's as passionate and active as ever. A real joy to speak with her and we know you'll find our interview with her inspiring and warming.

Our work

Social prescribing week

It’s social prescribing week and we’re celebrating our partnerships with social prescribers across the UK. With the lifting of restrictions, we are looking for more ways to connect with social prescribers and make sure they know about our work.

Our work

Leave a legacy of friendship

While our 14,000 volunteer hosts and drivers give their time for nothing, Re-engage needs additional funding to recruit and train more volunteers, to promote our services to new older people and to grow our services across the UK. One way you can help us achieve this is by remembering the work of Re-engage in your will.
